Holly: Hello and welcome to the Business Mindset Podcast episode 204. This is your host Holly Worton and I am back with another solo episode.
Today, I am going to talk about, if you listen to episode 202 which came out just a couple of weeks ago, that was the Interview with the Heart-centered Energy Work™ Guides, you may have remembered that they were really adamant about the importance of us speaking up. They said it many times: speak, speak, speak.
If you haven’t listened to that episode, I highly recommend that you go back and listen to it, not necessarily now, but after this episode if you like, because we talked a little bit about heart Heart-centered Energy Work™, but it was mostly kind of a call to action to light-workers, change-makers, people who are out there as doing work to support this change in consciousness. So, that’s why it is so, so, important for us to speak up.
So, in this episode which was inspired by that one, we are going to talk a little bit about how you can speak up. So how can you speak? What do you want to speak about? What conversations do you want to be having? That kind of thing… So, I hope that this episode gives you some really good ideas on how you can speak up and use your voice to get out there, and to share the things that you want to share, and to help be a part of this change in the world that we are currently experiencing.
But before we get into the episode, I really wanted to take a quick moment to invite you to be my guest, I am super-excited about this; I would like to invite one of my lovely listeners to join me on an episode. So, I would love to talk about how business mindset, or how working on your mindset, has changed your life, how this show has helped you, what have been some of your favourite episodes, who are you? What do you do? Who do you help? That kind of thing. So, it is going to be a kind of modified version of our usual show format, when I interview people. So, if you would like to apply to be a special guest, on this special episode for listeners, just head over to hollyworton.com/guest and that will kind of redirect you to a Google form which will ask you some basic questions like ‘what’s your name, what’s your email address?’ So, I can get in touch with you and you know, why would you like to be a part of this project. So, again, this is a special episode for listeners, I am really excited about, and I look forward to speaking with you. If you have ever thought that you would like to be a guest on this show, please get in touch. That’s: hollyworton.com/guest and again this is a special episode for a listener, so that’s it for now, let’s get into the episode.
I am super-excited to be talking to you about speaking. So, in episode 202, the guides spoke up and asked us to speak and encouraged us to speak, and they said that it is really important to actually use our vocal chords to spread our message, because they said the vibration of the vocal chords contributes to the message, so, when we speak up and when we use our voices, and our vocal chords to share our message, that has that added element that you don’t necessarily get from writing. And that’s not to discredit writing, you know that I have written six books, I love writing, I love blogging, but there is that special element of vibration that you get from speaking, using your vocal chords.
So, let’s talk a little bit about how you can speak – and I know this might be scary for some of you because this is a big call to action to speak up and to speak authentically and to speak the things that you want to share with the world. This is a big part of visibility. So, depending on how you speak up, you may or may not be physically visible but your voice will be showing up in a very big way. So, if you have got visibility issues, that’s something that you might want to address, so that you can more easily speak up and get your message out there.
So, again, how can you speak?
This is really, really, important that you do you. Recently I was working with a client who just started a new podcast and decided that she loves podcasting, she loves using her voice to share her message. And, in the previous months she kind of played around with video, she had done some Facebook lives and realised that really wasn’t for her, that wasn’t her way of speaking up, but she loved the podcast. Now, I love podcasting – as you can tell I am on episode 204 – I have been doing this for almost four years now and I absolutely love it. This is the one form of content that I have been consistent with for 204 weeks, for the last almost four years, every single week, I have not missed an episode. So, that says something to me. I love doing videos, but it is kind of hit or miss with videos for me; I am really good about batching videos, but then time goes by and I kind of don’t do it. And so, I am kind of up and down with videos, kind of up and down with Facebook lives, I love doing them, I love live video, but it just doesn’t happen as often as I would like. The podcast is easy – it has been so easy to fit into my schedule, whether it’s the solo shows, the co-hosted episodes with Jo Casey, whether it’s the interviews, it is really, really easy to make this podcast happen and to me that’s a sign that this is where I need to be focussing. So, even though I would like to do more videos, the podcast is clearly my thing. And that’s why I recently invested in a session with Elsie Escobar of She Podcasts – I joined her e-league for the first month that she was running it, because I want to learn how I can make this podcast a better experience for all of you, which incidentally is where the idea came from of having one of you guys on the show – I can’t believe I never thought of that! So, yay, Elsie, for giving me that idea. I will share a link to her website and to the e-league in the show notes. If you are interested in her or learning more about She Podcasts, you can check her out if you are thinking of starting a podcast of your own, or if you already do that.
So, how can you speak? Do you want to start a podcast? Do you want to just record little vocal clips and upload them maybe to http://vocaroo.com/ or Soundcloud or something like that? Or, would your rather do video? Because the good thing about doing video is that you’ve got the audio obviously integrated, so, like I did with the interview with Orion, with the Heart-centered Energy Work™ Guides – that was originally a video which I put up on YouTube and then I took the audio and I turned it into a podcast episode, because it was really important for me to get that message out to you guys, as my listeners, because I think that what Orion had to say was super, super-important. So, if you do video you can always turn that into audio, and use it as a podcast, or upload the audio somewhere else.
This is one of the things that I love about Denise Duffield Thomas, so, she has been a guest on the show a couple of times on episodes 90 and 170 and she – if you have never heard of her or don’t recognise her by name, she is LuckyBitch.com she is a money mindset mentor. And she has got a fantastic program Called the Lucky Bitch Money Bootcamp, so she has been on here a couple of times to talk about money mindset, but what I love about Denise is how streamlined she is with her content. She does videos, and then her team takes the audio out of those videos and creates a podcast out of it, and then they create transcripts and set up a blogpost, with the video, the audio and the transcript. It is so fascinating, I love it, it is so streamlined, it gives you three different ways of consuming your content, and it is just absolutely perfect and I really hope someday to get to the point where I can have my shit together and do something like that as well because I would really like to be able to offer shows in those three different formats, because I think that some people are naturally drawn to one of those three and I think it’s kind of the best way to reach people is to have different ways of allowing them to connect with you; whether that’s video, audio or reading. But, again, we are talking about speaking. That’s another really good way of making the things that you have to say in a couple of different formats, you can import the video, then take the audio and upload that as a podcast episode with maybe like an intro or outro, you might have to change things a little bit, or edit the audio. And if you choose to do that, obviously when you do the videos think about the fact that you are repurposing that as audio, not everyone is going to see the things that you are talking about. So, if you are the kind of person that does a lot of screen capture videos, that’s probably not going to work for a podcast, but if you are just speaking that might work for you.
But again, how you want to speak? Do you want to do video, do you want to do audio, do you want to do podcast, do you want to sing? – and this is something that never would have occurred to me as an example – but of course singing is a way of using your voice, and speaking up. I am probably tone-deaf so singing is not something I have ever thought of doing, don’t worry, [laughing] I will never subject you to the horror of my singing on this show. But that’s a very valid option that’s a very valid way of speaking up, so if you are musically inclined that’s a way you can do it, I don’t know if you have ever heard of Farideh Ceaser? She was also a guest on the show, on episode 75, and she is in a band, she plays the ukulele and she has done a couple of…in addition to her normal music…she has done a couple of really cute videos and songs about business stuff, so check her out – I will include her website in the show notes as well, but her website is: www.farideh.ca.
So, again, the important thing here is that you do you, you do what’s right for you; and do what’s easy for you and sometimes that may involve trying a couple of things: it may involve doing Facebook lives or Periscope, if people are still doing that, doing recorded videos for your YouTube channel; trying out podcasts or trying out audio files on http://vocaroo.com/ or SoundCloud websites like that. Try different things and see what works for you. You are never going to know until you try. So, figure out how you want to speak, how can you speak.
Now, the next thing to think about is what do you want to speak about?
This is something that I recently journaled on, so I am going to read you some snippets of what I wanted to talk about: so, what do I want to talk about, me on my own? Well, business mindset obviously, but I want to be talking more about the struggles of business and the not so pretty side of business; if you have listened to a recent podcast episode here with Jo Casey, it was episode 198, we talked about the messy-middle in business, and, we shared a couple of our kind of stories of some of the rough sides of business and Jo shared this story about crying before sending out Mailchimp newsletters, and I shared the story about how in the beginning I used to hope that my clients wouldn’t show up or they would have to reschedule because I was so terrified of actually getting on the call with them and doing the work, because what if they were disappointed, what if I didn’t live up to their expectations. You know, I am sure so many of you have experienced that. So, I think these are the conversations, things that I want to be talking about more, is stuff that a lot of people aren’t talking about in business – it is not all beautiful – and I think we tend to glorify the beautiful sides, which is important – but I think we also need to talk about the messy stuff, because otherwise people, especially people that are new to business, think that it is all supposed to be perfect and then they think they are failures because they are not perfect. So, have a think about what are the things that you want to speak about and then, what are the conversations that you want to have with other people? So, in the ways that I have: guests that I interview here on the show and I do the co-hosted episodes with Jo Casey; what are the conversations that I want to have with other people? Occasionally I do videos as well, where I invite someone and we put it up on YouTube, or, I will do a co-hosted webinar with someone. So, there are many different ways, that you can have these conversations, but what are the conversations that you want to have with other people?
So, I for example I want to talk about mindset, I want to talk about the power of releasing blocks, I want to talk about the power of working at deeper levels, of working at the energetic level to release energy blocks, or working at the subconscious level. I want to talk about the importance of becoming aware of our shit, of digging deep into our crap, bringing it out to the light and then clearing it. I want to talk about the importance of mindset work on a regular basis; to help you stay aligned and to help you to take easy, inspired action. I want to talk about what one of my clients calls ‘the crappy crap’, that other women have experienced and have gotten over, and the crap that we are still working on. I want to share more stories about crying on Mailchimp and hoping the client cancels; I want open and vulnerable conversations about all parts of business; the good stuff and the bad stuff. I want to get bigger name business celebrities talking about how it wasn’t always easy for them, because when we look at the big-name people, it’s so easy to think ‘oh they were always super-confident and they always had amazing self-esteem and that’s how they got to where they are’, when there’s more to it than that, but we don’t necessarily see that, because they have been around for a while, and you are mostly familiar with their recent stuff since they have become so big. So, these are conversations I want to have.
I want to normalise the woo; so by now you should have heard episode 201, which I refer to as the ‘woo episode’, where basically a bunch of experts talking about how it’s not woo its normal, and how we can normalise the woo, that’s what I want to talk about, I want to have those conversations. I want to speak my unfiltered truth – whatever that is – and that changes because as I change and as I grow, and have new experiences, I see different things I have new unfiltered things that I want to talk about. I want to talk about the change in consciousness that we are currently experiencing in in the world and the messy middle we are now in, I feel like we are kind of in a nose-dive before things bounce up and get amazing. That’s my theory, I want to talk about this with people and I want to have these conversations and be more public. I want to talk about the power of women forging a new path and creating a new world where women can thrive. And I want to talk about the power of listening to our intuition over listening to our heads, I have mentioned before – I think it was in the last episode with Jo, that I started a ‘master-gut’, with a couple of very good friends and it is basically a master-mind but for intuition. So, it is about keeping and staying on track and listening to our gut and our own intuition rather than giving each other advice from the logical headspace. I want to talk about this. I also want to talk about, or have conversations with, people who have radically different ways of doing marketing which are only aligned, totally heart-centred, and totally different from what everyone else is doing. I am not just talking about people who take a new spin on the old stuff, I am talking about totally different things. So, yeah, these are the conversations I want to be having.
So, spend some time thinking about what do you want to speak about? What conversations do you want to be having with other people? And again, how do you want to be having those conversations? Do you want to be doing it on video? Do you want to be doing it on audio? Do you want to sing with other people? I sure as hell don’t, but you might? Do you want to do podcast? Do you want to interview other people? How do you want to be having these conversations and where?
And then think about what is important to you that isn’t being talked about. Some of these things I mentioned in my previous list of conversations that I wanted to have, and things I wanted to talk about: the intuition, the mindset stuff, all that stuff. So, those are the things that are really important to me and I think isn’t being talked about. we are so into talking about things like ‘strategy’ and ‘business’ and working on…. like ‘taking action’ and ‘sales funnels’ and stuff like that and I think there is not enough talk about the inner work for business, because there is a massive amount of inner work to be done in business as you are doing the outer work; I think that’s not being talked about enough.
So, what is important to you that isn’t being talked about enough? And is that something that you want to talk about on your own? Or is that something you want to have a conversation with and bring that out to the world? So, do you want to talk to someone else about these topics or do it on your own?
Think about how you want to speak up about these important topics that aren’t being talked about enough.
Next, whose voices do you resonate with? Whose messages do you resonate with? Who do you enjoy hearing from and why?
So, think about the people that you love hearing from, and why do you like them so much? So, for me one person that I didn’t discover until the summer of last year, and I am going to totally pronounce his name round but: Fabeku Fatunmise; his website is: Fabeku.com so you can check him out there and I will put that in the show notes – but he is one of the people that I was thinking of when I was talking about people who do radically different marketing. He does not follow any of the rules. And yet, he has got a thriving community of people who love what he does and jump to buy everything that he puts out there. He has got a months’ long waiting list for people to do one-to-one work with him, he has got such a fantastic business by breaking all the rules and doing all the things that people tend not to do. I love this guy. Check out his website and the main place that he hangs out is on his Facebook Group, the way to get into the Facebook Group is to friend him on Facebook – I will send you all these links. Friend him on Facebook, tell him who sent you – that’s me Holly Worton – and then tell him you want to join the vroom brigade, I think it is called. It is a great place, he shares a lot of stuff, he shares a lot of exclusive content there that he doesn’t share anywhere else and I think the important thing about him is that he shares such a radically different message to all of the other online marketers out there. When you get into his Facebook group, look for the post on what he calls ‘price fuckery’ – that is one of the best posts that I have read in a long time. He is got a ton of stuff in there, check it out, and let me know what you think, because I think he is so different from all the other voices out there.
So, whose voices do you resonate with the most? Fabeku is just one example, I love him because he is so different. Whose voices resonate with you? Maybe this is something you want to journal on, maybe you want to look at the podcasts you listen to, the YouTube channels you subscribe to, see whose voices you resonate with. And this could be the tone of their voice, this could be the message that they have. So, if we are talking about tone and message, that could be again, podcast, it could be videos, it could be music. What music are you listening to that really resonates with you, and why?
So, when the Orion guides say to you, and say to us – because I was there too – speak, speak, speak; do some work, take some time to think: what is it that you want to speak about; how do you want to speak up? What conversations do you want to be having with other people? What is important for you to speak up about that isn’t being talked about enough? Whose voices do you resonate with and going on from that… do take some time to figure out why they resonate with you but also think about whether those are some of the people that you want to be having conversations with. Whether that is again on a podcast interview, YouTube interview, or Facebook live interview, or somewhere else? So, have a think about all of these things, because if you are going to speak up, and it is so important for all of us to speak up, if you are going to speak up you need to know what you are going to speak up about, who you want to speak up with, or not, do it on your own, and why? What do you want to say? So, it is really, really, important to have a think about this. And I am really re-thinking now all the stuff I do based on this perspective of what I want to speak about.
So, I want to very quickly quote from the episode that I keep referencing, which is episode 202 with the Heart-centered Energy Work™ Guides, also known as Orion, what they said was:
‘speak up, speak loud, speak amongst each other, speak to other people, speak about the work that you do, speak about how the work helps people, speak about how the work helps other people; speak, speak, speak, you must speak about this, to everyone who will listen, to everyone you can, because the more you speak about it, the more connections you create, the more people open their hearts to the possibility of channeling, and to connecting with these energies, and to connecting with those light beams, and to connecting with all of the other beings ad all the other realms. You must speak, speak, speak, speak, speak.’
Now in that passage, they were specifically talking about response to Cara’s question about how channels and light workers can connect more; but that passage applies to all of you, all of you who are listening. We have got to speak up about the work that we do, we have got to speak about how we help people, and who we help, because if we don’t speak up about this, how are we going to be able to help all those people who are out there who need our help? If we do not speak up we are doing them a disservice because we are hiding, we are playing small, we are not stepping up into our bigness, we are not stepping into our greatness. So, it is time for us to stop playing small. It is time for us to speak, it is time for us to use our voices in all the different ways that we can use our voices. We have so many opportunities available to us now, there are so many ways that we can speak up, that we couldn’t speak up before, or ways we couldn’t speak up because we didn’t have the Internet, we didn’t have all of the tools at our disposal allowing us to speak up.
So, I am going to encourage you, answer these questions that we have gone through today: how can you speak? What do you want to speak about? What conversations do you want to be having? What is important to you that isn’t being talked about enough? And whose voices do you resonate with and why? Look at these questions and spend some time thinking about them, journaling about them, but get clear on them so that you can speak up.
I am going to give you a challenge, I would love for you to speak up in some way, whether it is creating a new podcast episode, video, whatever. We have talked about all the different types of verbal content here: sing a song. And share a link to it in my Facebook group, so we can continue the conversation there. So just head over to: HollyWorton.com/group up and then that will redirect you into the Facebook group. If you are not already in there I will add you, but please share your link to whatever it is that you have decided to speak up. That’s my challenge to you. How can you speak up how can you use your voice and speak up about the things that are important to you and speak up about the things you want to say and that you want to share? That’s my challenge to you this week: speak, speak, speak.
So, hope you found this useful, hope you find this interesting, I really want to encourage all of you to speak up, use your voice and speak about the things that maybe you have been avoiding talking about. Speak, speak, speak. And pop onto the Facebook group and let me know what you thought of this episode, I would love to hear from you!
And that leads me onto the next thing that I wanted to say, I would love for you to join me in my private Facebook group ‘Business Mindset Alchemists’ it is a group that is dedicated to exploring business mindset and how you can get the mindset you need to achieve your dreams. It has been getting a lot more active in there, with live stream videos, all kinds of stuff. There is a great conversation going on in there.
So, if you are a woman entrepreneur I would love to see you in there just go over to hollyworton.com/group and you will be redirected to the Facebook group and you can join if you are not there already. I would love to see you there and I would love to have more of a conversation with you guys, so if you are listening, if you have been listening for a while, if you have just discovered the show, please head over to the Facebook group, and connect with me – I would love to get to know you in there.
And as always, thank you for listening; I am so grateful to you for having sat through this episode and any of the other episodes that you may have listened to. I am constantly hearing from people who have discovered the podcast, and binge-listened to all of the 200+ episodes and it is so greatly satisfying to me, because I love putting this out, I love using my voice to connect with other women and to help other women. So, tying back into the message from this week’s episode: speak. It is super important if you find this to be interesting and any of these episodes to be useful and interesting: think about how you can use your voice to do the same thing; and thank you, thank you, thank you for listening. I am so grateful; and remember to visit hollyworton.com/204 for the show notes on this episode. Thanks.
