Naked Nutrition Review: Vanilla Naked Whey Protein Powder and Naked Collagen

by | Apr 26, 2022

I set fairly high protein goals for myself, which means that just about every day I’ll have a protein shake. I’ve been using whey protein for the last few years, as that’s what my body digests most easily.

When Naked approached me about a collaboration, I did some research on the company and loved what I found. I hadn’t heard of them before, as they’re a US-based company (but they do ship to the UK!). I learned that it was founded in 2014 by former cross country and track star Stephen Zieminski, who noticed that many supplements included numerous ingredients of little nutritional value. Naked Nutrition started with five single-ingredient supplements, and has expanded to over 50 products on their US website (not all products are available internationally).

Their vanilla whey protein powder only has three ingredients: grass-fed whey protein, vanilla, and organic coconut sugar.

I blended some up with water, along with their collagen powder, and I instantly saw the difference. Everything blended beautifully, with no lumps. Some protein powders don’t mix well with water, which is what I always use.

The taste is great, and the shake feels light and frothy. It’s a noticeable difference from my old whey powder. And I love that it’s sweetened with coconut sugar, rather than stevia, which everything seems to have in it these days (I can’t stand stevia!). Naked protein is very lightly sweetened, which I love.

I’ll be bringing Naked Whey on my upcoming Coast to Coast trip for a simple breakfast every day.

Disclaimer: I was given both of these products for free in exchange for this honest and unbiased review.

Vanilla Naked Whey

Vanilla is my go-to flavor for protein, but there are other flavors available.

I loved how quickly and easily this mixed up in a blender, with no lumps. The shake felt light and frothy—much lighter than my previous protein shake. It was easy to digest.

Because it’s sweetened with organic coconut sugar, it’s got a great taste.

Many other brands of protein shakes are sweetened with stevia or artificial sweeteners, which can leave a nasty aftertaste.

What makes Naked Whey different:

  • Just three ingredients: grass-fed whey protein, vanilla, and organic coconut sugar
  • Made with grass-fed cows’ milk from small dairy farms
  • Sweetened with natural vanilla and organic coconut sugar
  • No artificial sweeteners or colors
  • Each serving has 25 grams of protein and 5.9 grams of BCAA’s (Branched Chain Amino Acids)
  • Non-GMO, soy-free, and gluten free
  • Hormone free—no rBGH or rBST (something to watch out for in dairy products)
  • Cold processed (this helps retain more amino acids and nutrients)
  • Acid and bleach-free processing

Naked Collagen

I’ve been taking collagen on and off over the years, and it wasn’t until last year’s shoulder injury that I started taking it every day. My sports therapist recommended it for recovery.

But what is collagen? It’s is the most abundant protein in your body and a major component of connective tissues in tendons, ligaments, skin and muscles—which is why my sports therapist recommended it to heal my torn shoulder tendon.

There are two main types of collagen you can get: bovine collagen and marine collagen. Naked collagen comes from pasture-raised, grass-fed European cows.

What makes Naked Collagen different:

  • From pasture-raised and grass-fed bovine hides from Europe
  • No artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors
  • 9 grams of protein and 0.6 grams of BCAA’s (Branched Chain Amino Acids) per serving
  • Just one ingredient: grass-fed bovine hide collagen peptides
  • GMO-free
  • Dairy-free, soy-free, and gluten free
  • Hormone free—no rBGH or rBST (something to watch out for in dairy products)
  • Paleo and keto friendly
