Get the Mindset You Need to make a Big Impact, with Holly Worton

HW:      Hello, and welcome to the Business Mindset Podcast episode 192. This is your host Holly Worton and I am back with another solo show.

I am super excited to talk about this topic today, because stepping up in a bigger way, and making a big impact, is something that I have been thinking about a lot about lately, because, it is the topic of my workshop that I am going to be giving at the No Limits event in Brussels, which actually – I am recording this before the event but by the time you hear this it will have already happened. So, I am super excited to talk about this because I also recently ran a webinar, with Joanna Hennon, who has been a guest a couple of times on this podcast about this topic. So, let’s dig in.

So, we are going to talk about a few things today, we are going to talk about: why your business needs a big impact, or you need to be making a bigger impact with your business; what a bigger impact means to you; what’s stopping you from making a bigger impact; things I have done to help myself get the mindset I need to make a big impact; and then things you can do to make a big impact: both mindset stuff and practical stuff. So, let’s get started.

So first of all, why is mindset work so important?

Now, this is something I get asked all the time. And the way I see it is that the mindset work basically helps us to take easy inspired action; so, it helps us to take action more easily than we would without doing the mindset work, so that business feels more like flow, and less like that hustle, push, push, shove, urgh it’s not working, it’s hard, kind of thing. So, transforming your mindset is all about making it easier to take easy inspired action, and the second kind of element to that easy, inspired action, is the word inspired. So, it is about taking actions, the actions that are right for you and right for your business, and feeling inspired by your intuition to take these actions. Rather than doing things that feel that you should do, that maybe aren’t right for your business. So, they are actions that align with you and your business.

So, why do you need to make a bigger impact?

So, the important thing to consider is: what’s your vision for your business? What is the big goal? Why do you have your business? What are you doing with your business? What are you hoping to achieve with your business? Who are you hoping to help with your business?

Once you are clear on that vision, you need to get out there and make a big impact in a big way, to attract those ideal clients and those people that you are meant to help. Because, if you don’t get out there in a big way, you are going to be the best kept secret in your field; I have said this a thousand times. Making a bigger impact will help you to help more people, help you to get in touch with the people that you are meant to help, and it will help you create change in the world. Now I know a lot of people who listen to this podcast consider themselves to be change-makers: they are in their business to change the world by helping the people that they are here to help. So, if you don’t make a big impact you can’t help those people, it is as simple as that.

The question is: what does making a big impact mean to you?

It could mean a number of things, it could mean: being seen as an expert in your field, it could mean having more abundance, whatever abundance means to you; it could be making more money; it could be having more clients; it could be having more freedom of choice: in your life; in your business; and in your lifestyle. It could be being a business celebrity, being known as the person in what you do. Now for some people, making a bigger impact means all of those things, but I think it is important to also kind of sit down and figure out what’s the biggest priority for you; they are all kind of interrelated, but then again if you know what your priority is, and what this vision of making a bigger impact means to you, then it is going to be much easier to create the mindset that you need to achieve that.

So, the next thing you need to think about is: what is what is stopping you from making a bigger impact? Is it fear of change? Is it fear of growth? Is it fear of success? Is it maybe lack of confidence? Maybe you feel that you don’t have what it takes to make a bigger impact. Maybe you have got money blocks or money issues and just beliefs going on about your ability or your inability to make money? Maybe you have got fear of overwhelm? You know, maybe there is fear going on that if you step up in a bigger way, and you make a bigger impact, that you will be so overwhelmed by clients that you won’t be able to handle it? That’s, actually, really common. Procrastination might be another thing that is stopping you from making a bigger impact. And procrastination is kind of a spot of not having the mindset that you want. So, if you are procrastinating on starting a podcast, or starting a YouTube channel, or um creating videos for your YouTube channel, maybe you have started the channel but you haven’t done anything with it. Maybe you are procrastinating on creating your own webinar? Or speaking. Whatever it is, those are things that can help you to step up and make a bigger impact.

So, another thing that might stop you from making a bigger impact, is issues around self-worth; and that is another big topic that I work with women on. Because, if we don’t believe that we are worthy of having the business that we are worth, and if we don’t believe that we are worthy of making the big impact we want; and if we don’t believe that we are worthy of having the lifestyle that we want, then, it is going to be really hard to make that happen.

One of the final things that’s a really big topic, and one of the biggest blocks people have to stepping up and making a big impact, is visibility. Fear of being visible. Fear of stepping up and taking up space and using your voice and being visible and being heard. That’s a big part of making a bigger impact, visibility is absolutely massive. And that’s kind of interrelated to other things. Visibility issues can come from low self-worth, from low confidence, from fear of success, so, a lot of these things are interrelated but it is really important to figure out for you specifically what’s stopping you from making a bigger impact. What are the things that scare you? What are your blocks? What’s standing in your way? What limiting beliefs do you have that don’t serve you? That are holding you back from making a bigger impact?

So, things that I have done to help me step up. Like I always say business is like a spiral staircase, I will be talking about two things here: I will be talking about mindset stuff and practical action stuff. So, I talk about business being a spiral staircase, where you are going up and you are growing and you are reaching new levels, and each step is different. So, like imagine with your left foot you are taking practical action, and with your right foot you are doing the mindset work. You have got to be constantly doing this stuff, as you are building your business. You can’t have one without the other, or it is going to be really difficult. So, you can’t just do the mindset work and expect magic to happen and your business grows. And, if you just focus on taking action, it might be harder and slower because your mindset might not be on board. So, again you really need both things.

So, for me in terms of mindset, I know you have heard me talk about this a lot, but, for the last, almost four years, I have been using a technique called PSYCH-K®, to help me transform my mindset, and transform my beliefs, and get the mindset that I need to build my business. And I couldn’t have gotten to where I am without that, it really helped me in a big way to change my beliefs, change my life, and step-up and make a bigger impact and be more visible. Now, starting this year I started working with a new method that I have developed myself for working with clients; and, I will be using that probably exclusively at some point in this year; so, I am kind of in the transition period right now. But the important things is, there are so many techniques out there and I don’t think there is one cookie cutter solution for everyone, and I think you need to find what works best for you. And that might take some trial and error, so you might find that hypnotherapy works for you, or tapping works for you, or NLP works for you. There are SO many things out there. The important things is to do the deep mindset work, to change your beliefs at a deep level, that’s either at the subconscious level, or at an energetic level, and shift those things at something much deeper than just the conscious level, because that is how you are going to create easy and fast change.

So, I always advocate doing regular mindset work; but I also always advocate taking regular inspired action which, as I said, is going to be easier once you have done the mindset work. So, as you step up, do the mindset work it makes it easier to take bigger scarier actions to help you make a bigger impact. So, making a bigger impact, again, that could mean so many things and there are so many ways to do it but often it has to do with visibility stuff, so stepping up, doing webinars, teaching what you do, doing joint ventures with other people to get you out there to other people’s audience, doing Facebook live videos, those are a great way for people to not only listen to you speak but to engage with you. Those are really, really, powerful. You can create a YouTube channel, YouTube is a fantastic way of doing videos that will help you connect with your audience and have people get to know you and who you are and what your energy is like and how you help people. Blog posts, writing of any kind, so either writing a post for your own blog, guest posts for someone else’s blog, writing books. Writing; that is another way of stepping up in a bigger way, making a bigger impact, and connecting with these people that you are here to help. Podcasting, you are listening to this podcast, maybe you should have your own podcast, maybe you have thought about having a podcast, maybe you are afraid of starting a podcast. If it is something that you are drawn to, give it a try, you never know. You might hate it, you might love it, you can always quit; but if you don’t step-up there and give it a try you will never know. This podcast has been such an important part of my business, and my life, for the last three-and–a-half years, it is going to be four years old in August. And, I never would have known how much I loved podcasting and how much I love connecting with people in this way, and how much I love sharing and connecting with people through this medium if I hadn’t tried it. So, try new things. If things scare you do the mindset work to make it easier, if they still scare you, take baby steps, take tiny little baby steps outside of your comfort zone, until you get to the point where you have stretched your comfort zone so much you can take bigger steps and then you can take leaps and bounds and the more you do it the easier it becomes. But if you are super scared right now, take tiny little baby steps, that is totally okay. Don’t feel like you just have to go out and change the world in 24 hours and do amazing, incredible things. Like, you can take the time you need to make this happen, and again, if you feel like you are stuck, if you feel like you are going too slowly, if you feel like you wish you were moving faster, do the mindset work to unlock the blocks and release the limiting beliefs that may be holding you back, this is super, super important.

So, how you can make a bigger impact: first of all you have to get super clear on your big business vision, the big vision that you have for your business, and I have a guided meditation on this, so you can take a look at that, get in touch with me at: [email protected], if you can’t find it, it is on my website, and I think it might also be on my YouTube channel. So, get super clear on your business vision and don’t play small with this, really step up into your bigness, expand your energy, get big with your big business vision. Dial up the volume on that vision, on how you are going to feel, on how things are going to sound; really, really, get into that vision for your business, get clear on that. And then get clear on who you need to be in order to achieve that vision; how do you need to change? Who do you need to be to achieve this vision for your business? And what do you need to believe about yourself, in order to step up into this vision and achieve this vision for your business? And then become aware of your blocks: what might stop you from achieving this big business vision? What might get in the way? What are your blocks? What are your fears? What limiting beliefs do you have that don’t serve you that might be getting in the way of achieving this big business vision? Next, once you become aware of this stuff, transform your mindset and your beliefs and there is kind of a two-part process to this, and on the one hand it is releasing and clearing the fears, the blocks, the limiting beliefs, the stuff that’s keeping you stuck, and on the other hand, it is programming new beliefs, enhancing beliefs, positive beliefs that will support you on your journey to achieving this big business vision. So, it is not just releasing the blocks, but it is also reinforcing the positive. It is reinforcing that vision of who you need to be, how you need to step up in your bigness, to make a bigger impact, and transform your mindset, so that you can achieve this big business vision.

And, finally, you need to take inspired action because, again, you can’t just do the mindset work, you also need to take action. So, take the actions that you need to take to achieve this big business vision, and to step-up and make a bigger impact In the world. When you do this, again, it is step by step, you might look at this business vision and feel like “my god it is huge, how am I ever going to do that?” You do it the same way you do anything in business, or in life, you break it down into small chunks, and if those chunks are still too big and scary you break them into smaller chunks. And if you help with this, you get a coach, you get a business mentor, you get someone who can help you and work with you to break this vision, this goal down into bite-size chunks, so you can easily take the action. And again, if you feel stuck you do the mindset work.

So, I had someone ask me today: is it enough to just be positive, or is there more to the mindset work? And I think being positive is important, because it is important to focus on what you do want, rather than what you don’t want, because of course then you attract whatever it is that you are focussing on. So being positive is important, and I think it is an important way to transform your conscious mindset; but I don’t think it’s enough to transform your mindset at the deep level, whether it is at the subconscious level, or at the energetic level. I personally think that you need to do some kind of specific work; again, at the subconscious level or at the energetic level, to actually shift your mindset at a much deeper level. And that’s where you are going to get the big changes. So being positive, yeah that’s the first step, but I personally don’t think that’s enough; and I don’t know anyone for whom thinking positive was enough for them to create big changes in their life and their business. But, again, everyone is different so you need to find what works for you.

So, part of making a big impact, as I said earlier, is being seen and being visible and being heard and that involves taking up space. And this is something that I worked with a lot last year with Lisa Wechtenhiser, my business coach/mentor. The concept of taking up space was a big thing for me, because at the time, I think I was posting like once a day on my Facebook page, and felt like that was enough. And I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, and feeling like more was too much, and I was afraid of taking up space, and so one thing that she had me do was to stretch myself to start posting more often on social media. And this is hilarious because you know my business, before I started working with the mindset stuff, was social media. And one of the things I would tell people was: your Twitter timeline, your Facebook timeline, it all moves so fast, you have got to post regularly, otherwise people aren’t going to see it, because it just kind of keeps going through; so, it is really hard to be too obnoxious or too visible because there is so much going on there with you, and with other people. So, I ended up signing up for MeetEdgar which is a really great online software system to take advantage of all of your content. I have massive amounts of content, I have years’ worth of blog posts, podcast episodes, videos, all kinds of stuff, and what Meet Edgar does is it helps me like recycle it, and get it out there and get it in front of eyes. And in the beginning, when I first set up my calendar in Meet Edgar I was so uncomfortable, because I was posting lots of stuff, not only on my Facebook page, but on LinkedIn and on Twitter and it was so uncomfortable. Even though I knew, like I said, people’s timelines move by, it is hard to be too in-your-face, but it was really uncomfortable, because I didn’t feel comfortable taking up space. So, taking up space is a big part of being seen and being heard and making a big impact. So, think about what fears and blocks and stuff you have around taking up space on other people’s timelines; that’s a big, big thing.

And then think about how you want to take up space. How do you want to be seen? How do you want to be heard? How do you want to use your voice? Because using your voice, both your written voice, and your speaking voice, is a big part of making a big impact; it is a big part of getting out there and being visible. So, are you more of a writer? Are you more of a speaker? What do you prefer? I really like both. I have always liked writing, I have written since I was a kid. I am not blogging as much as I used to these days, but I am writing books; so, that’s kind of my way of getting my writing out there and doing that. In terms of speaking, I speak at events, like I said I was just at No Limits last weekend, I have a YouTube Channel, I have this podcast, of course. So, I am using my speaking voice, to connect with people. Find out what works for you, and do it, whether it is a combination of the two: writing, speaking, whatever. Use your voice to take up space, and make that bigger impact you want to make.

Another thing that I did last year when I was trying to take up space and get out there, was I pitched myself to be on other people’s podcasts. I get pitches all the time for my show, to the point where I can’t accommodate other people, and I have had to set up a form to take in all the information for people who have pitched themselves to be on my show. So, interestingly, at the same time, I found it really hard to pitch myself to other people; so, I started doing it. I pitched to some people on my own, I hired a PR person to pitch me to other shows, got a lot of stuff lined up, connected with new people, spoke with new people, was exposed to new people’s audiences, got out in front of different people. That’s another part of making a big impact, how are you going to spread your voice, broadcast your voice, share your voice on other people’s platforms? So, you could do a joint venture webinar with someone else, you could do a guest post on their blog, you could be interviewed on their webinars, you could run a co-hosted webinar that you both promote, you could do a video together that they promote on their YouTube Channel. Stuff like that is really fun; because there are so many great people in the online world of business and there are so many great people to connect with, and it is so easy to just get together and have a conversation about a topic that’s useful to your listeners, and to other people. So, think about who you can collaborate with to get yourself out to your audience and to help them get out to your audience. That is another big part of making a bigger impact, by stretching your impact out to other people’s communities.

So, just to sum things up, some of the things we talked about today: why it is so important for you to have a bigger impact; what does making a bigger impact mean to you? Because, again, that is going to look different to everyone. What’s stopping you from making a bigger impact? And how you can make a bigger impact, both through doing the mindset work and through taking practical actions. And again remember, you have got to do both things. So, if one thing is difficult do the other. So, if you find that taking practical action is difficult, do the mindset work to make it easier; it is a very, very, important part of your business to do both.

So, that’s it for the main kind of heart of my episode today. What I wanted to do, I wanted to direct you to my resources page on my website because I have got loads of stuff there that will help you to step up in a bigger way and make a bigger impact, and it is all free stuff. So, for starters I have got my “unlock a steady stream of clients” free download. So, what that is, it is a guided meditation and a worksheet and it will help you get clear on what your blocks are, what’s holding you back from getting the clients you want. Now that’s could be the stuff that is holding you back from stepping up and making a bigger impact with your business. A lot of times that stuff is all related. So, next thing: I have got the Definitive Guide to the Workcation Weekend, you may have heard me talk about ‘Workcation Weekends’ before, the Workcation Weekends’ is my favourite way to get stuff done, it has how I created an online course in two days; how I released six books last year; how I built my entire website in a weekend. Learn how to focus and get projects done, by downloading this guide. It is the Definitive Guide to the Workcation Weekend: so, what I do is I basically go away for a weekend, get out of my regular working environment and hyper-focus on one topic or one project. It is super, super useful.

I have got another download: if you have been thinking about writing a book as your way of stepping up and making a bigger impact, I have got a download on How to Get a Book Out of Your Head and onto Amazon. And, that’s a downloadable PDF, which is also a companion to episode 155 of this podcast, where Jo Casey and I talk about the same topic, How to Get a Book Out of Your Head and onto Amazon. I have also got my free download on this page to the PDF worksheet that I mentioned, the guided meditation, on how to get clear on your business vision, so you can download that, again on this same page which is: https://www.hollyworton.com/resources . I have also got the resource on how to use muscle testing in your business; muscle testing is something that I have talked about a lot, and I think it is a great way of tapping into your higher self and knowing what to do. So, when you are still working on fine tuning your intuitionyou’re your connection with your higher self, muscle testing can be a really good way of confirming that, so that you are super clear on which is the right thing to do in your business, so it’s a fantastic way. Also, wanted to invite you, if you are a woman entrepreneur listening to this, to join my Facebook group which you can find at: http://HollyWorton.com/group and that just redirects to my Facbook group.

That’s it for now, I hope you have enjoyed this episode, I hope you have found it to be useful, this is a topic like I said that I really, really, enjoy discussing and if you have any questions, comments, anything you would like to share with me, you can email me at: [email protected] and I would love to chat with you about how to make a bigger impact by transforming your mindset.

And, also, as you may know, I do 1:1 work with people so if you are feeling stuck in. your business, if you are feeling like you need help with transforming your mindset, I would love to work with you. So, I normally work with people on a package of three 90-minute sessions, because I find that’s a great amount of time to just jumpstart your mindset, and get it going and aligned with you and aligned with your big business vision and your goals, but I also offer single sessions. So, you can get… check out my website, I have got a work with me page which explains all these options and lets you know how you can work with me. Or aIso, as I say, you can just pop me a quick email: [email protected]; we can have a quick chat to see if we are a good fit but I would love to work with you on transforming your business mindset because it such, such, such powerful work. I cannot overestimate how powerful this is. Changing my mindset at this deep level has completely changed my life; it has been, just, absolutely powerful.

So, that’s it for today. Thank you so much for listening, thank you so much for tuning in to another episode of this podcast. We are approaching episode 200, and I am so super excited about this!
