Holly: Hello and welcome to the Business Mindset Podcast, episode 230; this is your host Holly Worton, and I am back with another solo episode. Today, I am going to talk about how to make mindset work a habit, and that’s something that’s really, really, important to me and I feel it is something that I need to talk about more, so we are doing an episode today on that.
But, before we get into today’s episode, I wanted to mention a couple of podcasts that I have recently been a guest on, the first one was Ruby McGuire who you remember from a video that we did, which is available on the YouTube channel. Her podcast is called: Rock Your Fabulous Biz, and we talked about: how to make a bigger impact with your business. That went live last month, back in November, but I am just now recording a solo episode where I can mention this. So, hope you find it interesting, we talk about how to dissolve visibility blocks, and limiting beliefs, around money and success, so that you can take easy, inspired action and make a bigger impact with your business. I met Ruby last year in Brussels when we were both speaking at the No Limits event, and it was really fun to chat with her again on her podcast, so I hope you find it interesting and useful. You can go to: http://HollyWorton.com/RYFB and that’s Rock Your Fabulous Business, and that will redirect you to Ruby’s website, and to that specific episode. So, again, http://hollyworton/com/RYFB – Rock Your Fabulous Biz.
The next one, is Louise George, Soul Fire Sessions podcast, you may remember Louise from a recent episode on this show, she was here on episode 227, so not that long ago; and, also, the same week that my episode went live on Ruby’s podcast, it went live on Louise’s. So, we talk about business mindset alchemy, we talk about what it takes to create a successful business, the importance of the right mindset and tools that you can support you in creating the business and life you desire. So we talk a little bit about: how working on your mindset will help you take the right actions more easily; we talk about the power of intuition, how you can strengthen yours; the importance of understanding yourself and scheduling self-care, we talk about all kinds of stuff; so if you want to check out Louise’s podcast, and specifically this episode, you can go to: https://www.hollyworton.com/LG – for Louise George. And, of course, both of these links are going to be in the show notes for this episode. So, if you miss that, because you are out and about listening to this episode you can just go to the show notes and hook on those links, and find them there.
So, let’s talk about how to make mindset work a habit. Like I said, this is something I feel I have been dancing around the topic for some time, but perhaps not driving home the concept enough; because this is something that’s really, really, important to me; and it is the basis of the work that I do, and yet I feel like I haven’t made enough of an impact with this… so, let’s talk about this. Now, I often tell the story, and I am going to tell it again — because sometimes you have got to hear things more than once – of four-and-a-half-years ago, back in 2013, when I trained in PSYCH-K®. Now, I trained in PSYCH-K®, which is the technique that I actually still use with myself and with clients, in addition to my Heart-Centred-Energy-Work, to reprogram beliefs at the subconscious level. When I trained in this, back in July 2013, I wasn’t doing it with my business in mind, I trained in it because I was working with some personal challenges in my life, and I tried other techniques and they weren’t really working, I wasn’t getting results. So, a friend of mine – who is a PSYCH-K® facilitator – recommended that I check it out, and do a session with someone, and then train in the process myself. And I had a session with someone, it didn’t really click with me; but I decided to go ahead and do the basic workshop anyway, which is just a 2-day workshop – which next year will be expanding to a 3-day workshop. It was really affordable, it was easy to get in my schedule, there was one fairly nearby to where I lived, so I signed up for it. Little did I know, that it was going to be totally life-changing for me. That workshop was the basis of my business pivot, into the business that I have now, where I am helping entrepreneurs with their business mindset, and it was a huge shift for me, personally, in recognising the importance of mindset in business.
Now, I think that mindset is so, so, so, important in business, because I think so many of us struggle to build a business and we just keep pushing, pushing, pushing, pushing; trying to make it work, desperately trying to make it work, and not taking the time to acknowledge the blocks that we have that are keeping us from moving forward more easily. So, again, different people are going to have different experiences with this, you have got to find what works for you, but for me, the trick has been: whenever I feel stuck in my business and my life, doing the mindset work to shift my mindset into the mindset that I need to achieve my goals, to get what I want and make my dreams a reality. So, again, I trained in PSYCH-K®, it was a 2-day workshop, came home and wanted to practice the technique, obviously, and so I just started doing the work every single day. At the end of my work day, I would balance a few beliefs, and see what happened. What happened was, I stared seeing massive changes, massive shifts in my life, and things just got easier. It got easier to take action, I was feeling better, I was feeling more positive. I had more confidence, my self-esteem was boosted, and I started applying this to my business.
What I was started doing was, I started digging up all the mind crap and bringing it to the light; so, when I was working throughout the day, I would pay attention to the things that I was procrastinating on and I would write that down. And I would write down: what’s my fear, what’s my block? Why am I afraid to do this? Or, why am I stuck on this? Or, why is it that I am procrastinating on this? And I would write that down in my notebook, which I kept on my desk next to my computer. Whenever I hesitated to do something, whenever an icky feeling popped up; whenever I saw something on someone else’s Facebook that triggered my mind crap and made me feel less worthy, or not good enough, I wrote that down. I wrote down all the crap that came up during the day. And this, in and of itself, was a massive mindset shift because I think we tend to often sweep this stuff under the rug. And we try to: ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’, which is something we always hear so often. And like I always say, I’m sure that works for some people, but it doesn’t work for a lot of people, and it didn’t work for me. So, by sweeping all the crap under the rug, it didn’t get rid of it, it just left it there in the background, and made it more difficult for me to access and be aware of, because it was hidden; and that ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ thing wasn’t working for me. It was just keeping me stuck and blocked and feeling like crap. So, by bringing all this stuff out from under the rug and into the light, so that I could see it, and writing it down that made it more tangible, that made it easier for me to work on this stuff. And because I had trained in PSYCH-K® I now had this tool to look at all the mind crap that I was digging up, flip it on its head and see what it was I wanted to have instead, what I needed to believe instead, to have this different reality. And I started doing that every single day.
Every day I would balance probably between 15-20 beliefs and that’s a lot. But because I was doing so much work with myself I was getting massive changes, like I said, fear of visibility was starting to dissolve. Obviously, as you grow, this stuff comes back in a different way, and you have still got to work on it, but it was just becoming easier for me to get visible, easier for me to take action, easier for me to do the stuff I needed to do to achieve my business goals. And it just felt so good. Because it was like I had found the secret sauce to making my business work, not just my business though, my life. Everything is related, it is all holistic, so I was using this stuff on just my business and my life issues and life was just getting so much more positive, and easier, and things were just flowing better and working. And as time went on, I found that naturally I no longer needed to do this work every single day. But I continued to do it on a regular basis, and I still to this day continue to do this on a regular basis. So, like I said, it might not be every day anymore, it might be once a week, or once every other week. And I find that this work kind of comes in ebbs and flows, I will find myself maybe doing a lot of work over a period of a couple of weeks. And then, it will kind of fall off and I won’t do anything for maybe two or three weeks; and I find that that’s the natural process of doing a lot of work and then allowing it to integrate. Because when you are changing your mindset, at the subconscious level, and when you are working, also, at the energy level; as my heart-centred-energy-work does, work both at the subconscious level and at the energetic level, removing energy blocks, that, takes some time to integrate.
And I was just talking today, on a call with some business friends, about how this kind of downtime, this processing time, is something that we often feel like we are being unproductive, or we are not being professional. But, I think a lot of us naturally fall into periods of inactivity, and we think we are being lazy, or we think we are not doing anything when in reality we are doing stuff. It is just not very tangible because we are processing all the work that we have done in the background. I think by giving ourselves permission to have this downtime as part of our natural cycles can help us be more successful in the long run and when I started tracking my monthly cycles, a couple of years ago, that taught me how I naturally go within a couple of weeks a month, and process stuff. And then I naturally become incredibly productive the other two weeks out of the month! When I saw this cycle, and I realised that by giving myself permission to go within during those two weeks of the month, made be even more productive the other two weeks, it was just easier to allow that natural ebb and flow and cycle to happen. So, with this mindset work, as I said, you might start out doing it every day, you might do it intensively for a couple of weeks: on a couple of weeks, off a couple of weeks. Find what works for you. I say this all the time, but you really need to find what works for you, and what works for you may change over time. So that’s important to pay attention to as well, and just go with what works for you and be flexible and be willing to shift that up as your needs change.
So, what does this habit look like now? I mentioned the ebb and flow of doing a lot of work for a couple of weeks, and then processing for a couple of weeks. I did a blog post, I think it was back in August, about how I shift a specific block in my mindset, so in this blog post — which I am going to link to in the show notes — I actually walk you through the process of how I shifted one specific block. And I am going to walk you through this, here on the podcast; but also do take a look at that blog post because it is all written out, and will give you an idea of how I do this. So, first of all: get clear on what you want; get clear on what’s stopping you from achieving that; explore your fears, blocks and beliefs; and then do the mindset work – so, either the PSYCH-K® or the heart-centred-energy-work, the tapping, whatever it is that you use, to make those shifts.
So, how do you get clear on what you want? Often that comes from looking at what you don’t want. So, you may be experiencing frustration, stuck-ness, you might be feeling uncomfortable in your business; you might be angry with your business, because maybe you’ve invested a lot of time, and energy, and money, in your business and it is still not working; and you just feel awful and you are angry and annoyed; and you want to give it all up, but you don’t want to give it all up. Get all this stuff out, bring it up to the surface; and one way of doing that is by journaling. So, you might find it easier to do a mind-dump and just free-write and get your journal out, or open up a word doc, and just write. I tend to prefer to do this by hand, in a paper journal, rather than typing it up, but again find what works for you. So, I often mind dump, and get all the crap out of my head, and just express all the anger and frustration and urgh, just all the crap. Dig that up, get it to the surface, and get it in writing where I can see it.
From there, I look at that and I go: okay, this is all the stuff that I don’t want. What do I want instead? And that’s the question I ask myself to flip that situation on its head and to get the new vision of what it is that I want. So, if you are feeling stuck and frustrated with your business, how would you rather feel instead? Would you like to feel like your business is easy? Like it just flows? Like it brings you joy? Like it feels nourishing? How do you want your business to feel instead of stuck and frustrated? And, then, if you feel angry with your business, because you have been putting all this energy and effort; and time and money; and it is just you are not getting the clients; and so, you are angry with your business. How would you rather feel instead of feeling angry with your business? Would you like to feel like your business is your ally; would you like to feel like your business if your friend? Would you like to feel supported by your business? So, take each of those points that you have just mind dumped into your journal and flip those on their head by saying: what would you want instead? What would you rather have instead? Who would you rather be instead? Or, how would you rather feel instead? What do you want instead of the crap that you have now?
If you are feeling small, like you have been playing small in your business, pick that apart, why are you playing small? Like, what are you afraid of, what would you rather have instead? Would you rather be really visible? Would you rather be a shining beacon of light that draws your ideal clients to you? What would rather have instead of the playing small? What would you rather be doing instead? Would you rather be taking action to get featured on other people’s podcasts? Would you rather write guest blog posts for other people? Would you like to be on other people’s tele-summits? What would you rather have instead of this playing small and being invisible?
So, I hope that has given you some ideas on how to flip those things on their head. This is all the foundation work that you need to do in order to the mindset work which is like I have said, using whatever technique it is that you have trained in, or working with someone else. So, I work with myself using PSYCH-K® and heart-centred-energy-work; but I also work with other professionals. I work with other people from time-to-time, because they help me see stuff that I can’t see on my own. And for me this is the ideal way of working, I find it really, really useful to work with myself on a regular basis because I can get a lot of work done, and also work with someone else; so that they can help me see the things that I can’t see myself on my own, or that maybe I could but it would take me so long to get to the bottom of.
So, making mindset work a habit, is so, so, important, because this stuff never goes away, I mean it does…but as you grow, you will constantly be facing new challenges, new fears, new limiting, new blocks, new challenges that you didn’t have before because you had other problems. So, as you grow, you might be meeting different faces of the old problems, different facets of the old problems; or new stuff, that you couldn’t even see before. So, if you are the kind of person who is dedicated to personal development, and personal growth, and you have that growth mindset, this mindset work, this business mindset work, this personal mindset work, mindset work in general is going to be a life-long process. And that doesn’t mean that you are going to be beating the old beliefs to death, over and over and over again, it is going to be new facets of old stuff, or new stuff that maybe you couldn’t see before. So, I think that can feel frustrating sometimes, to think that you will always be doing this work, but I don’t know, I have made this such a part of my life, and I actually find that to be a positive thing, because I can see the growth. And I think this is the important thing. When you are doing this mindset work on a regular basis, and you have made it a habit, because you see the growth, you see the changes; and that gives you the momentum, the interest, to do more of this work. And that’s what got me hooked on this at the very beginning when I first trained in PSYCH-K® because I was seeing the results, things were just getting easier, it was getting easier to do stuff and life was flowing in ways that it hadn’t been flowing and I was getting unstuck. And that gave me the motivation to do the work on a regular basis, because I was seeing the results, things were just getting easier, it was getting easier to do stuff and life was flowing in ways that it hadn’t been flowing and I was getting unstuck and that gave me the motivation to do the work on a regular basis.
So, some of you listening to this will have already trained in a technique that works at the subconscious level, like PSYCH-K®, like EFT or tapping, like NLP, that you can use with yourself to make these shifts. If you haven’t trained in something like that, and you don’t know what I am talking about, I am going to say: just do it, it is so empowering, and it is so powerful to have these techniques in your toolkit, your business toolkit, your life toolkit, that you can use with yourself to transform beliefs at the subconscious level, just do it. Find a technique that you enjoy, find something that resonates with you and just do the training. Now, because this is my background, I really, really, recommend PSYCH-K®, I will put the website in the show notes, check it out, you can do a search on the website and find when is the next basic workshop in your area. I really, really, really, really recommend it because it is fast, it is easy, it is a two-day training that is going to expand into three-days next year. It’s affordable and it is going to give you a life-changing tool that you can use with yourself for your life. So, if you don’t know how to do this mindset work at the subconscious level with yourself train in something, just do it, it is just a good investment, it will possibly be one of your best life investments ever. I really, really recommend it.
And when it comes to working with other people, that’s another really good investment, so find someone, even if it is someone who does the same technique that you do, or someone who does a different technique. Now, I like to work with someone who uses a different technique, because it helps me approach issues in a different way, so not only am I getting the help from the external perspective, this person that can see things that maybe I can’t see on my own, but also helping me approach my challenges in a totally different way to how I do it with myself. So, again, I find that to be really useful, do what works for you. You might want to train in a technique, use that with yourself, and then find another person or facilitator to work with as well, find what works with you, but I cannot stress the importance of making mindset work a habit enough. It is so, so, so important. So, if you are listening to this and you have any questions about how you can make mindset work a habit, in your life, and in your business, please get in touch. Either ask me in my private Facebook group: Business Mindset Alchemists which is https://www.hollyworton.com/group and that will redirect you to the Facebook group – ask me in there; send me an email [email protected], get in touch on social media, or arrange a call with me, I am really, really happy to talk with you about this and you can sign up at https://www.hollyworton.com/call and just book in a half-hour call and we can have a chat about this.
This is really important to me, and this is actually one of the reasons that I started my Business Mindset Alchemists Facebook Group, because I wanted to help people make mindset work a habit; but I don’t think I did a great job of expressing that and I don’t think I have achieved that with the group. So, this is something that I am going to be bringing more to light and talking about more because it is just such a life-changing process, and such an important habit to make; especially if you want to grow your business, or you’re are struggling with your business, or you are upset with your business or you are just not going the way you want, or you want something different. Mindset work could be the key that makes that easier. So, if you have any questions please let me know. I hope you found this interesting, I hope you found this useful and that’s all for now.
